About me

My name is Kath Findlay and I am an independent funeral celebrant accredited with the Academy of Professional Celebrants.
I am not a Humanist Celebrant. I am, however, comfortable to deliver all styles of ceremony and welcome people of all faiths, mixed faith and no faith at all!
Originally from Yorkshire, I moved to Perth over 30 years ago and to the beautiful Moray Coast in 2021.
Before becoming a celebrant, I was a teacher of children and young people with severe and complex needs. A role that has given me, alongside my training, all the skills I need to create and deliver beautiful and heartfelt ceremonies for the families I meet.
I love working with people and enjoy listening to their stories and experiences of life.
I decided to become a celebrant because I strongly believe that every family deserves a good and memorable farewell for their loved ones.

Saying goodbye to a loved one is a unique and precious moment in time.
My desire is to help you plan a farewell that is meaningful and truly special for your family, filled with warmth and memories.
The loss of a loved one can be a difficult and emotional time. You may feel overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. My job, alongside your funeral director, is to help guide and support you through the process – every step of the way.
Your loved one may have left specific wishes, or you may already have a clear idea of what ceremony you would like, in which case I can help carry these plans out for you.
Together we will shape and mould a service that celebrates and honours the life they led and reflects their personality and character.
We will create a personal ceremony which may include readings from friends and family, a photo tribute, special songs, prayers or reflections. There are no right or wrong things to include – only your wishes. Each service I deliver is bespoke and tailored just for you and I will work hard to make sure you have a beautiful and fitting goodbye.

I offer support for:

  • Funerals
    • Crematorium
    • Committal and graveside services
    • Woodland burials
  • Thanksgiving/memorial /celebration of life ceremonies – these do not need to be in a crematorium or, indeed, straight away! Sometimes these ceremonies are weeks or months after the loss of a loved one.
  • Burial of ashes/scattering of ashes ceremonies

What can you expect from me?

I will be there through every step of the way to make sure that everything is as you wish and I will lead the ceremony with warmth, compassion, sensitivity and care.
We will meet for an initial visit to listen and gather stories and information about you, your family and your loved one.
I will then write the ceremony and send a draft copy to for you to read, check and amend if required.
I may ask for a photo to help me – this will be returned when the draft is finished and you are happy with what I have created for you.
This is the time we can check that all the details I have included are correct and are what you wanted and expected. I can help with choosing readings, poems and songs or with writing your own personal tribute if required.
I can liaise with your funeral director If you need me too. I will continue to keep in touch with you if you wish – ensuring all is going smoothly and to provide support.
On the day of the ceremony I will arrive early to make sure everything is in order. I will greet the funeral vehicle as it arrives, and it will then be my privilege and honour to represent your family as I deliver your service. I will remain at the Crematorium or other site until your family leaves.

Costs

The last thing you need is the stress of hidden costs!
All my charges are transparent, and I am very happy to talk through costs with you.
Funeral at a cemetery, woodland or crematorium: £230
Memorial/thanksgiving/celebration of life: £230


These costs include:
Writing your ceremony and delivering your bespoke service on the day.

  • Travel to and from your home to visit with you if you are within 25 miles of Portsoy.
  • Travel to Moray Crematorium or Cemeteries within 25-mile radius of Portsoy.
    (40p per mile over the 25 mile radius.)
  • Other costs may be included for a double ceremony or for extra travelling and overnight stays.

Scattering or burial of Ashes
Whether it is two weeks or two years following the funeral service, I will do my best to be there to walk beside you on this final part of your journey. Please contact me for the price of this service.
